4 years ago today Drake and Future dropped their collaborative mixtape “What a Time to Be Alive” featuring smash hits Digital Dash, 30 for 30 Freestyle, Diamonds Dancing and plenty more. The project debuted at #1 on the Billboard 200 and elevated both stars to an even higher level than previously attainted. As each artist’s second #1 debuting project WATBA generated massive hype worldwide and secured platinum certification on March 15th, 2016.

Drake & Future What a Time to be Alive

Back in April Drake and Future both hinted at a sequel to the 2015 mixtape telling the camera, “What’s that? We gotta cook that up. That 2,” Drake commented as he held up 2 fingers. “It’s already cooked up. Top secret,” Future then confirmed.

The two artists had been spending quite a bit of time together back in April with Future making multiple appearances at Drake’s Assassination Vacation Tour in Europe. It had also been rumored that the two were frequenting the studio together cooking up some new heat. This was subsequently confirmed with the above video and their comments about “That 2” being something we might see in the near future.

Fast forward to August and we got a snippet posted to Future’s Instagram Story where a potential track from the sequel can be heard. Although short, the snippet reveals a similar sound and vibe to what we got with the first project, something that fans are sure to get excited about.

Will we be getting a What a Time to be Alive 2 anytime soon? Only time will tell, but with the recent sequel tease from both artists as well as each of them claiming to be in album mode we can definitely assume some Drizzy x Hendrix is coming our way soon. While you wait for a potential sequel be sure to check out the What a Time to be Alive mixtape streaming on all platforms.
