Lil Wayne’s latest album release Funeral has reached #1 on both iTunes and Apple Music. It has taken under a day for the project, Wayne’s 13th album, to reach the peak position of Apple’s streaming and marketplace with a total of 24 tracks coming in at just over an hour of listening time.
With big name features complimenting Weezy such as Lil Baby, Big Sean, 2 Chainz, Adam Levine and the late XXXTentacion it is easy to see how the album has skyrocketed the the heights of streaming platforms overtaking Eminem’s Music to be Murdered By and Roddy Ricch’s Please Excuse Me for Being Antisocial.
After multiple years of struggle to get his previous album Tha Carter V out to the public, Lil Wayne delivers to his fans a full collection of heat with songs like “I Do It”, “Funeral”, “Get Outta My Head” and “Line Em Up” being some of our favorites. In response to the untimely death of NBA legend Kobe Bryant that has shaken the world over this past week, Tunechi also included a 24 second moment of silence on the album’s 8th track to honor him and his family, Bryant having worn both numbers throughout his 20 season career.
Wayne has yet to announce a tour for the album, but with this instant rise to the #1 spot on Apple’s streaming platforms it would be hard to imagine a scenario in which he doesn’t perform the album on the road. Funeral proves to not mark the death of Tunechi, but the rebirth of him as an artist in a new decade where he still holds a firm position of power and notoriety even amongst the seemingly endless amount of new artists exploding onto the scene.
Be sure to follow Lil Wayne on both Instagram and Twitter and listen to his new album Funeral available now on all streaming platforms. You can also cop some album merch on Tunechi’s site for the album here.
